Rules will vary from County to County. These rules are only an example of what we are used to running.
Technical Rules:
1.Car numbers must be painted on each side of the car and on the roof. Numbers must be legible and no profanity.
2.All flammable material must be removed, with exception of the driver seat and padding allowed for driver safety. If driving a station wagon, the deck lid must be removed.
3.All glass, chrome strips, molding, trim, wheel weights, pot metal grills, lights, tail lights, etc. must be removed.
4.Maximum size wheels shall not exceed 15 inches-even if the car came stock with larger rims. No liquid in tires, air only. Tires must be street legal and no lug tires will be allowed. Mud & snow tires are allowed on the “non-drive” axel only. No traction devices will be allowed-ie snow chains etc.
5.No sheet metal screws allowed anywhere on the vehicle.
6.DRIVERS DOOR-plate of iron allowed in window slot for safety.
7.Radiator must be in stock location. No extra heaters or radiators will be allowed. Water only—no anti-freeze.
8.Transmission coolers are permitted.
9.Spare tire must be removed.
10.The driver seat must be securely attached to the frame and equipped with a back.
11.No trailer hitches or objects protruding from vehicle.
12.All batteries must be securely anchored in the passenger area of the car. No plumbers tape or wire. And must be covered with old inner tube. Two batteries will be allowed.
13.Original gas tank must be removed. (Original gas tank may be reinstalled in the cab of minis only)
14.Gas tanks must be made of metal. NO PLASTIC! 5 gal. max. The tank must be mounted in the center of the car, in the former location of the back seat or on the floor board directly behind the driver. Bolted or chained securely. Cap must be secure. Holes must be made in the floor board, around the gas tank for drainage.
15.Gasoline is the only permitted fuel. No starter fluid in the car.
16.All cars must have an :element type” air cleaner. No oil bath cleaners. A 10” hole in the hood above the carburetor is required.
- Bumpers may only be welded to the brackets and the brackets may be welded to the frame. Welding the bumper to the body or directly to the frame is not permitted.
18.Bumper tips may be trimmed or bent in and finders may be cut away 6” from tires.
19.Height of car shall be no more than 18”, measured from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. Cars previously ran in a derby are exempt from this rule.
20.Windshield braces; One or two vertical braces are required to be welded or bolted from top of the opening to the bottom of the opening. This is to prevent the hood from entering the car.
21.No welding or taping of leaf springs or suspension. Two clamps per leaf springs are allowed. Clamps no more than 1-1/2” wide, 5” long and ¼” thick. Three spreaders or spacers are allowed per coil spring. No shortening or adding to the leafs. Shackles may be re-hung by drilling through the frame.
22.Shocks must be stock and in stock position. To get height you may rag the shocks, or muffler clamps may be used on the rear shocks only.
23.All doors may be welded solid on the outside only. Or 4 chains or 4 bolts per door. The trunk may be tucked in and must be chained in four locations All chains used to secure the doors, hood, and trunk lid must be strong enough to tow the car. Max size 3/8” and min size 3/16”. No roller type chain allowed.
24.Hood may be folded in front of the radiator and must be Bolted or Chained in four locations. Bolts not to exceed ½” and may not be attached to the frame.
25.Mandatory Impact Cage. See diagram at bottom of page. The top of the driver side brace, shall be at least 4" below the bottom of the window.
26.Body to frame hardware and bushings must be OEM stock. Frames must be in OEM condition on all vehicles. Bushings may not be removed!
27.Engine may be chained or welded to the mounts only.
28.No weight may be added to car, such as packing the trunk, Frame, doors, etc.
29.IF IT DOESN’T SAY YOU CAN DO IT, ASK BEFORE YOU DO IT

Additional Options:
1.Goggles and gloves are highly recommended.
2.Radiator fans.
3.Locked or posy-traction rear end.
4.Ignition switch and transmission shifter may be modified.
5.Floor shifter allowed.
6.Fire extinguisher
7.Mufflers may be removed.
8.A three inch washer may be welded around the holes where chains are used.
9.Electric fuel pumps may be used, however the shut off switch must be in highly visible and easy to get to from outside the car.
10.Exhaust may be diverted through the hood.
11.Chain may be used around the bumpers to the body but not around the frame.
12.Driver suite recommended.
13.Rear window bars in window opening only
14.Chains may go around rear end around the frame.
15.A metal battery box secured to the floor.
16.2”x2” square tube may surround your gas tank for protection. Gas tank protection must only be attached to the Impact Cage. See diagram above.
17.For Driver Safety, one role over bar may be added directly behind the driver. This can be attached to the impact cage or to the floor board (not to the frame) using 1/4" plate for a base
